Waterlilies

  • In a first phase which lasted from 1893 to 1901 the temperature had to be raised to suit the sensitive waterlilies which Monet had imported from Japan.
  • An arched wooden bridge in Japanese style was built across the narrowest part of the pond.
  • His earliest consistent series of the subject was not until 1899. It was exhibited at Durand-Ruels gallery and included Bridge over a pool of waterlilies. This is my choosen artwork for my animation project.
  • In the painting itself the sky has been deliberatley excluded, and the eye focused upon the flora and the surface of the water.
